About: I have had "Thorne" for 11 years and have been
in the PPMAFC for the same length of time. "Thorne" was
built in Feb. 1930 and is a Deluxe coupe. The car was
restored by Dutch and Margo Nelson (prior members of the
club) in 1980, and the car has been in the PPMAFC since
1980. She has about 20,000 miles on her since restoration,
including 11 trips to the summit of Pikes Peak. Since,
I've owned "Throne" she has received a transmission
overhaul, brakes, and lots of small improvements. It has
been a lot fun with some great overnight tours to Durango,
Taos and Breckenridge. Prior to being owned by the
Nelson's, this car belonged to Colorado Springs Sherriff,
Earl Sullivan and was often seen parked near the jail in
Colorado Springs with a large white star on the side. I
also known a man who owned the car in the 1950's and he
tells that his brother bought the car from a rambling
county/folk musician named Buck Sherman in Teller County.
So, Thorne is familiar with all the old roads up that way.
